Tourism Chartres
Located near Paris and the castles of the Loire, one can find the city of Chartre. It lies in the heart of the rich grain agricultural Beauce region, in the Eure-et-Loire department often presented as the breadbasket of France. Chartres is internationally renowned thanks to its World Heritage-listed cathedral of UNESCO.
The town of Chartres played a real role in the history of France, since it was occupied during the Neolithic times. It has housed many great men such as Henri IV to Jean Moulin who helped to forge the history of France.
Ranked among the first protected areas of France, Chartres had retained its medieval streets and beautiful churches, attests to the magnitude of the religious movement and economic prosperity of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The old town of Chartres covers 64 hectares and consists of two parts: downtown and uptown, based around the famous Cathedral and the Lower Town extending to the banks of the Eure and its arms which constitutes a remarkable collection of streets, bridges and medieval and Renaissance.
Today, although plunged in modernity, Chartres has become in just a few decades, the capital of light and perfume in the heart of the “Cosmetic Valley” where are located many companies from the beauty and cosmetic sector.
