The Charente department is located in the south-west of France and is belong to the Poitou-Charentes region. The department enjoys a variety of farmland and countryside landscapes. The Charente department has 24 Natura 2000, a European ecological network of protected areas protecting many wildlife species.

The heritage of the department is rich and diplays vestiges from the Gallo- Roman era such as the Chassenon site, many Romanesque churches such as the one in Angouleme, numerous castles and manors such as La Rochefoucault that is the most attractive for some people. Also, countryside and urban museums reflect Charente’s chaotic history. Finally, the art and culture are represented by local poets and authors such as Alfred de Vigny, Jean-Louis Guez de Balzac, François de la Rochefoucauld and Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie.

Annual events add to the culture heritage of the Charente: The Confolens Festival, Cognac Blues Passion Festival, Festival of ‘Musiques Métisses’ and finally the Angouleme International Comics Festival, taking place every year and now famous around the world.
