Ardeche is a French department that is part of Rhône-Alpes region. It is surrounded by Drôme, Vaucluse, Gard, Lozère, Haute-Loire, Loire and Izère departments. The landscapes in Ardeche are fairly different between the North and the south of the department that offer great variety. The department can be divided in three large areas such as the southern Ardeche, which begins from Rhône river and goes to Piedmont Cevenol, the most touristy part; the Ardeche mountain, a plateau situated at 1000 meters high and that is the least populated part as well as the wildest and finally “Green Ardeche”, located in the north of the department separating Massif Central region from the Rhône Valley.

The Ardeche department has many well-known tourists sites such as, Vallon-Pont-d’Arc, a holiday site where one can visit the Ardeche Gorges and canoeing down the river to Saint-Martin-d’Ardèche. The Ardeche Caves and its exhibitions in Vallon. The PaÏolive wood, near Vans and Chassezac river banks. Aven d’orgnac and its museum. The mount Gerbier de Jonc, which is Loire river's source. The “Cascade du Ray-Pic” near Lachamp-Raphaël.

The major annually event in Ardeche is without a doubt the “Fête de la Châtaigne” celebrating chesnut, this event takes place everywhere in the department, every autumn.
