Musée de melun


Museum of art, history and traditions, the museum of Melun is partly set in the house of the Viscount, dating from the seventeenth. The museum received a large donation to the watercolorist and lithographer Armand Cassagne. It includes hundreds of works (paintings, watercolors and drawings) of the artist who was very inspired by the beauty of the forest of Fontainebleau. Other Goods (bronze, antique pottery and porcelain) are also part of the donation.

Louis-François Binoux also bequeathed in 1903 a large part of his collection. Bronzes, ceramics and furniture especially large Parisian cabinetmakers of the eighteenth century: Vassou, Fléchy, and Jacob-Reizell Desmalter enter the museum. The museum also has a collection of works on the Mamluks who served in the Imperial Guard of Napoleon Bonaparte. The Mamelukes were originally a militia composed of former Egyptian freed slaves.
