Puy-de-Dôme is a French department that is part of the Auvergne region. It is surrounded by the departments of Allier, Loire, Haute-Loire, Cantal, Corrèze and Creuse. The main cities are Clermont-Ferrand, Ambert, Issoire, Riom and Thiers.

The department of Puy-de-Dôme is famous for its volcanoes of which, the Puy-de-Dôme is the highest with 1460 m. This relief offers numerous lakes to the landscape such as Pavin Lake and Servière Lake; these are great for fishing and other water sports activities. Also, the department benefits from a very beautiful natural environment, especially with the Sioule Gorges.

Puy-de-Dôme also disposes of a very rich and varied historical and religious heritage with the villages of Usson, Saint-Floret located on the river Couze banks, Orcival and its basilica, Bourboule for its spa heritage, the Romanesque style churches especially with Notre-Dame du Port in Clermont-Ferrand, listed world heritage by UNESCO, Saint-Austremoine d’Issoire, the Mozac Abbey. The Castles of Chazeron, Murol and Tournoël. The Fades Viaduct. The ‘Aventure Michelin’ Museum, the Papier Richard de Bas museum in Ambert. Finally, some medium size cities are worth the visit with Riom, or Clermont-Ferrand and their historical centres.
