La Rochelle is a French commune, the historic capital of Aunis and prefecture of the department of Charente-Maritime, in the Poitou-Charentes.

Its inhabitants are called La Rochelle.

Located along the Atlantic Ocean, off the openings of Antioch, and protected from storms by the "barrier" islands of Ré, Oléron and Aix, the city is primarily a port complex chip and, since the twelfth century.
