Gers is a French department located in the Midi-Pyrénées region. It is surrounded by departments of Hautes-Pyrénées, Haute-Garonne, Tarn-et Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne, Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

Gers is well known for its hilly landscapes. Culturally, it is strongly linked to agriculture. Regarding its heritage, the Sainte-Marie cathedral inAuch and the Eugene Camoreyt de Lectoure museum are really worth the visit. The ‘Castelnaux’ and the ‘Sauvetés’ houses civil and religious monuments. The villages of Fourcès, Larressingle, Montréal du Gers and Sarrant are listed as ‘the most beautiful villages of France’. The ‘Collégiale de la Romieu’ and the Artigue bridge near Larressingle are listed world heritage by UNESCO. The village of Goutznear Fleurance still has vestiges from the Castle of the Goths that used to be a protection for the Visigoth Palace of Toulouse in the 4th century.

Also, there are numerous cultural and artistic events in Gers throughout the year and one of the most famous is the ‘Eclats de Voix’ Festival in Auch in June.
