The castle of Salans was built in the 17th century by the Laborey de Salans family. The last member of the Laborey family was executed during the Revolution.

The Chaux forest is one of the largest forest in France and is mostly colonized by oaks and beech trees. La Vieille-Loye is the only village located in the forest and became famous due to its glass factory.

In the north of Dole, Mount Roland is located in the north of Dole and offers a remarkable view point on the city and the region that stretches from Jura to the Alpes. At the top there is Notre-Dame-du-Mont church that houses a virgin which works wonders.

The Serre forest is smaller and offers beautiful walks. One of its footpaths leads to the cave of Ermitage, a curious cave on two floors probably inhabited in the prehistoric era.
