Touring saint-bonnet-de-condat

The rocks looming over the village remind us that the Cantal in in fact a massive volcano. The formation of rocks is the result of a lava flow from the volcanoes of Cezallier. The rocks are lighted at night during summer season.

Located between Saint Bonnet and Saint Saturnin, the viaduct used to link Neussargues train station to Saint Bonnet train station up to Bort les Orgues. Made of basaltic rock, it allowed the railway to get to the pass of Claviere before reaching Landeyrat train station thus going through the Santoire Valley.

Few kilometers of St Bonnet, just before arriving in Condat, there are the ruins of the Cistercian Abbey of Val Honnete. The monastery of Feniers was a rare Auvergnat Cistercian building. The Notre Dame Chapel of Feniers was built on the top of the abbey's ruins where dwells the statue of Notre-Dame dating from the 15th century.

Located between St Bonnet de Condat and the hamlet of Feniers, the 'Tranchades de Laquairie' is a deep and narrow fault dug into a former lava flow. In this basaltic cliff, the snow and ice can last all year.
