Largentière

All year on demande and once per week Friday morning at 10:00 in July and August we propose to you to discover the history and the inheritance of the medieval city of Largentière.

Through the medieval lanes, we invite you to discover the history of the castle of the bishops, the history of Argentaria, city which worked already the siver-bearing black leads, ramparts, Notre Dame church of the Apple trees dating from the XIII century, the channel which brought the water of the Line to the tradesmen and craftsmen of the city as well as the many houses and private mansions of medieval style or rebirth.

In addition to its exceptional climate, Largentière is surrounded by picturesque villages, the natural curiosities, and from varied landscapes, you will be able to benefit from the bathes in river, the ballades in shift, the sports activities and cultural.

• Largentière:

 Visit accompanied by the city: A ludic discovery of the history of the valley of the Line & mines of themoney already exploited by the Romans. At the 12th century, bishops of Fish ponds and Counts of Toulouse s' there install to beat currency. A great voyage in the time of the antiquity at our days.

An old well restored village, soon listed as "village of character".
St Benoit chapel, a simple romanesque chapel. It was declared a historic monument in august 1907.

To see:

• St Hilaire church, this fortified church, was built in 1396. Listed as historic monument in 1909, it is a place for both religious worship and musical concerts as its acoustics are exceptional. Facing the church, higher up, rises Vernade castle. Today the mayor's offices occupy some of the rooms.

• La Motte castle, it is an end of the 15th century renaissance castle of Florentine appearance, owned by the Lords of Chassiers until the French Revolution. It is a privately owned and was listed in october 1988.

A small mountain village with a lovely view of the valley surrounded by orchards and chestnuts trees.

The pretty little church of St André was restored in 1976, and there are also the ruins of La Fage Castle.

The village is in the foothills of the Tanargue chain of mountains. It is a very old parish dating from the 6th or the 7th century.

Notre Dame de l'Annonciation, the church was built in 1150 but only the nave remains from that time. The fortified feudal castle of Joannas, dates from the 12th century. It has renaissance style turrets, an interior courtyard, rooms with vaulted ceilings and a dungeon in the tower. Classified in december 1985, the village bought the castle in 1983. On the first floor are the offices of the mayor.
