In 1972, Jean-Pierre Jacob, Mr. and Mrs. John Jacob’s son (creators in 1970 of Le Bateau Ivre in Le Bourget du Lac) began his two years long apprenticeship as Chef de cuisine. Then, between 1974 and 1979, the Savoyard Chef performs a tour around France into Great Gourmet Houses, such as: Michel Rostang in Sassenage, Roger Verge, Le Moulin de Mougins in Mougins, Mr. Picard, Reserve de Beaulieu in Beaulieu Mr. Girard, The Santon in Grimaud. In 1980, he joins the family business, at Le Bateau Ivre restaurant (« The Drunk Boat ») in Le Bourget du Lac and in Courchevel. In 1984, he obtained the first Michelin star for his restaurant in Le Bourget du Lac and in 1986 for Courchevel 1850. He got the second Michelin star in 1987 for Le Bourget du Lac and in 1989 for Courchevel. In 1995, Jean-Pierre Jacob left the then-called Bateau Ivre (and which has become La Grange à Sel since) and took over the hotel Ombremont also in Le Bourget du Lac, where he set up his new Bateau Ivre (1 Michelin star). He was given its second star back in 2000. Jean-Pierre Jacob was a member of the Jeunes Restaurateurs de France and of the Haute Cuisine Française. Today, he combines the management of his two establishments of Courchevel and Le Bourget du Lac, and travels the world to demonstrate his art of cooking, particularly elegant and original.
