Château-Raoul


The Chateau-Raoul, symbol of local power, towers above the town of Chateauroux, city to whom it gave its named. The Château-Raoul belongs today to the General Council of Indre and is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments Located on the banks of the Indre, the former castle of the lords of Deols during the tenth century, was completely rebuilt in the fifteenth century and restored in the nineteenth century before being renovated a few years ago. Former stronghold of Aquitaine with its dungeon, there are now 3 turrets and a spiral staircase in the castle. Note that the castle can only be visited occasionally, during the Heritage Days, usually held in September each year, due to its proximity with the Prefecture.
