Auberge du Cheval Blanc - Hotel ****

In the 18th century, the Auberge du Cheval Blanc was a staging post. And this is very probably the origin of its name. From 1785 on, date of the creation of the village of Westhalten, the Koehler family were running the establishment and also growing vines on the surrounding hills.
At the time the inn mainly served the wines it produced. Gradually it became a restaurant.
Mélanie Koehler, and later her daughter-in-law Denise, both very good cooks, took over the stove whilst Pierre, her husband, took care of the vines. .
In 1978, Gilbert and Bernard, sons of Denise and Pierre, took over the reins of the family business.
Their reputation grew gradually. The Establishment has been modernised over the years: construction of the hotel in 1989; in 1990 the cuisine was awarded a star in the Michelin Red Guide.
