Tourism Flaine

Listed building, this station was established in 1968 by geophysicist Eric Boissonnas the heart of a large natural amphitheater at 1600 m altitude, and designed as "integrated resort", skis and foot without cars. The resort is built on three levels: "Flaine-Forêt" (1700 m), "Flaine-Forum" (1600 m), "Flaine Front de Neige" (1500 m), connected by two external elevators and two footpaths.

With the Swiss architect Gerard Chervaz Eric Boissonnas took the gamble to create a sample of urban planning, architecture and design, for which the immediate return would be second to aesthetic and environmental. It has been used to Marcel Breuer, the Bauhaus architect known worldwide. The guidance of the architectural design was the respect for nature: the mass lines of the plan are aligned with those of the morphology of the site. Concrete is voluntarily present cast by its color with the surrounding limestone. The will of its proponents was enlightened to realize "a prototype of architecture, urbanism and design to the mountain". Today that commitment has been recognized with the rank of the Hotel Le Flaine historical monuments.

The station was the scene of successive innovations, with: 

• Center free of cars
• A central heating gas cleaner
• Internal cable television station
• The first snow guns
• The cable car station and gondola level with the tracks
• The first 8-seater detachable chairlift in France, SDT Great Vans. The chairlift was opened in 2000, the same year that SDT 8 seats of Méribel
• The first ESI International Ski School in 1974
